The vineyards of the Marche Region

Testifying to the venerable sparkling wine tradition in the Marche Region is the seventeenth-century reference made by a Doctor Scacchio of Fabriano, in his treatise "De salubri potu dissertatio", to a 'tart, tangy wine' and its beneficial effects. However, it is not until the mid 1800's that we find precise documentation demonstrating the existence and consumption of sparkling wines. The grapes cultivated in the Marche Region appear to have had special qualities that made the resulting wines better than others. It is during this period of history that Mr. Francesco Spalazzi, after years of experimentation, produced a wine that offered both the strengths and weaknesses of French champagne. And so it was that, towards the end of the eighteenth century, Italian Sparkling wine production in the Esino valley, strengthened by this quest for quality, began to fully express its potential. And it was in this same area of Serra San Quirico that the Togni company was founded in 1950, carrying on a tradition rich in love and devotion. From its earliest days, the company has set itself apart with its production of quality Sparkling wine, so that today it stands as one of the leading companies in the sector.
